BTS SUGA's Mother's 큰맘할매순대국 Restaurant in Daegu Review + How to get there

Note: based on the info circulating online, the restaurant has transferred ownership by 29 August 2017 because Yoongi's family moved to Seoul. The restaurant's twitter has also been taken down.

The restaurant is owned by Yoongi's family in his hometown. It is not located in Seoul, it is in Daegu and it takes approx. 105 minutes by KTX to get to Daegu from Seoul. The restaurant itself is a branch of chain restaurant (hence it says since 1937).

How to get there:

Take KTX Seoul station to Dongdaegu station. Ticket is approx. 47000 won/one way/per person (other ktx ticket option: korail pass), check KTX timetable here. KTX from Incheon Airport is available but the departing time available is limited compared to Seoul Station which has a train departing every 30-60 minutes.

Please note that KTX procedure is a bit different than train experience I have in another country. The platform is not gated and it might be pretty confusing for people who ride KTX for the first time.

After getting your ticket, check the train number and platform number where you will board your train. Please go to your platform number at least 15 minutes before departure (don't be late!). The platform is not gated (no need to tap ticket). You can enter the platform as you please and make sure you are in the correct platform and train.

Take subway from Dongdaegu station Line 1 bound for Seolhwa-Myeonggok TRANSFER AT Banwoldang to Line 2 bound for Munyang, your final stop will be Keimyung Univ. station.

single ticket 1,400 won. tap to get in, when you get off at your destination insert it to the slot to get out. You could also use T-Money card here.

at Keimyung Univ. Station take exit 6 to go to the Restaurant

Go to Keimyung Univ. exit 6 and walk straight following the path until you see 7-11 and turn right. Walk straight until you find the restaurant on your right.

Inside the restaurant:

The atmosphere is really nice, the restaurant is clean and air conditioned. I came here around 3PM in weekday so it wasn't really crowded. The food comes pretty fast. There is a self service side dish bar if you need more side dish. When I was there they play BTS songs all the time, I ate my food while listening to FIRST LOVE hahahaha....

Please note that this is not Halal restaurant. They use pork as one of the ingredient and they share the same kitchen. Sorry, I'm not sure if there's any dishes that doesn't include pork product.

Taste test:

Soondaeguk 8/10

Honestly, Soondae (blood sausage) is not really my kinda food but the restaurant specializes in it so I have to try it. I expect that the food are not to my taste but I was wrong. It's delicious! The soondae doesn't smell too distinctive and the meat is tender and generous portion. I think you'll need to add more salt because I find it too bland for my liking. For 5k won it's a nice meal.

I have an excellent experience during my short trip to Daegu. If you are in South Korea and you could go, I totally recommend going to this place. Also, if you are lucky that the older brother is in the restaurant, he can speak English pretty well~ he's really nice and fun to chat with!
